LIGHTING UP THE RURAL LIVES!
Light is an essential requirement along with food, clothing and shelter. Paadhai understands this. In an ambitious project, Paadhai has tied up with One Million Lights (OML, USA) to reach out to the rural areas by distributing the eco-friendly solar lights. Paadhai and OML are aiming at distributing about 1,00,000 lights in the next five years.
The pilot project is being tried out with our associate NGO Desh Seva Samiti, Mumbai.
Paadhai plans to be an effective and active interface between those who need help and those who want to help. It cannot and does not want to engage directly in field-level development work. Paadhai will seek to integrate livelihood improvement, environmental conservation and the application of appropriate technologies. To this end Paadhai intends to involve and/support in any of the following:
- identify replicable projects that are expected to show measurable or noticeable results over a reasonable period of time and also likely to have long-term sustainable impact
- raise resources by matching the needs of a project with the interests of the donors
- implement projects through reliable local groups
- conceptualise and plan the project in detail, draw up work-plans, specify milestones, provide technical and managerial guidance to the implementing group, monitor the progress and carry out an audit
- keep the donors fully involved through sending reports, arranging visits, and linking them with the target groups
- document the process in detail describing the successes, failures and the lessons learned
